B and G Network marine instruments

Over a while I  have collected Brookes and Gatehouse spares to suit my own needs, now that I no longer require them I am about to start selling them off.

I will start with a Network Speed display, the display was fitted to a Far 38/40 I took over the system when the owner fitted a new system.

The Err shown is due to no transducer being fitted when I tested the display.

The transducer and cable have never been used, they are new, the skin fitting was fitted to a boat but again, the transducer was not fitted. A blanking plug is included, the system shows water temperature as well as speed.

Shipping boat kits Worldwide

Having an order is one thing, packing it to a standard that ensures that it arrives with the customer is quite another things.

This CKD Boats cc Optimist kit is another one we are shipping to the USA.

Please inspect the packing crate details. The 12mm WBP pine ply box is both glued and screwed together, there is clear plastic sheeting placed over the contents before the lid goes on.

The lid is also 12mm thick, it is a close fit inside the box and side screwed, then steel band strapped for extra security, there are six blocks under the box to enable a Hyster easy access when lifting and moving the box.

Wood/Epoxy Optimist dinghy mast step dimensions

The so  called Unofficial Guide for the boat gives a mast step block as 100 x 180 x 60mm in size.

The drawing shows the footprint and the required shape.

We looked at the size given and then read the rules and saw that we can down size it to save weight.

So our Optimist Wood/Epoxy kit has a pre shaped mast step block in it, this one is laminated from three pieces of meranti wood.

The kit it belongs to will be shipped to the USA and with a North Sail and Harken deck gear pack.

Proteus 106 on drying moorings

This picture shows why a multihull design can work when a monohull design will not.

This river is tidal, which makes little difference when you have a Proteus 106 design.

Plywood kits for this design are no longer available, when we have a replacement design we will post it.

Roy

Proteus 106 sailing pictures

The boat was built from a kit that Angelo Lavranos designed and we cut the plywood panels from his cut files.

The boat is 35.00 feet long and built to the correct plan specification, it sails well and has seen speeds of fifteen knots under sail.

This really is a right sized yacht for a catermaran when the needs are to keep things smaller but still have an ocean capable yacht.

The boat is on the East coast in South Africa.

Please note, due to the designer retiring, we can no longer offer this as one of our CNC cut boat kits.

The HBYC is to build a St Ayles Skiff.

The first boat was delivered today and as a CNC cut kit.

This pack of plywoods makes up one builders jig and one hull, a second or third hull ( or more ) can be built on the same builders jig, so a very nice cost saving.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/1213474742125924/

This panel is part of the builders jig which will be set up first.

The team will start the building jig frames first, then proceed to the hull stave planking.

HBYC has come up with a number of builder options, one is you become a share holder in a boat, this gets you involved and even allows you to sell on your share at a later date.

Contact me for information and pricing.

Colin Davies wrote and had the book published, all proceeds on the sale of the books went to the NSRI.

The book highlights the monthly meetings and talks.

I was asked to do a follow up publication and on the members many classic yachts/

Contact me for your copy of Colins book.

NSRI stands for National Sea Rescue Institute, it is not government funded and requires your support  please.

Jaguar 3.8 ltr S Type travels

After some thirty two years of ownership I sold my 1966 Jaguar S Type to a chap from Australia.

This was taken at the hotel Victoria Falls Hotel.

The car also went to Botswana and I believe that it has now returned to Cape Town and for a full rebuild.

The Nelson Mandela memorial, Midlands Meander, outside Howick, KZN, South Africa

I recently had reason to be in the Howick Kwa Zulu Natal area, while there I was shown a remarkable art form, it marks what is named The Capture Site .

Words will say little, I trust that the images will?

All images were taken by Roy McBride, I used a Canon  G1X  digital camera.

Roy

The monument has to be viewed from 35 meters back from it.

The engraved plaque is in front of the viewing position.

The walk down the paved path has sheet metal signs on the right hand side, many have been removed, stolen ?

The sites view and position relates to the capture place, which is across the road.

Close up and there is really nothing much to see?

There are a number of web sites that name the designer and tell the reason this site was chosen.

Being too close or far away to the work will loose the effect that the designer of this art form wants.

Hout Bay and the St Ayles Skiff

The first meeting, which was  open to the general public, was held in the HBYC last night, such was the interest that I think some sixty people turned up to see the promo on the design.

Paul the HBYC Commodore opened the meeting and explained why he was giving his full support t a rowing boat class in the club.

There was a lot of interest in the production that was put up on the big screen, build and launch pictures, racing too.

The club has allocated the  ground floor area of the club to members who want to build their own boats.

The basic costing are now known please contact myself or the HBYC for more information.
