An Argie 10 kit ready to ship.

It will leave tomorrow, today was a possible but as President Zuma is giving his State of The Nation address in the city tonight, many roads have already been closed.

There will be some crowds expected so that Cape Town City is in a lock down this evening, I may add this happens each year!

The grey patches are tapes to hold parts in the plywood sheet.

There is also a carton of epoxy and other materials, that and the plys which we will steel band strap between some pine packing plys will be collected Friday morning.

Friday, the kit has been collected and is now on a 1000 miles trip to the customer, we expect delivery will be made next monday.

Note, we do not mark the transport up at all, we do charge for the packing materials and steel band strapping, this is costed out close to our cost.

Tikki 38 built from our kit

This kit started out as a request for us to supply the materials.

As that materials list grew so did the boat, CNC work was also done on the bulkheads and related boat parts.

The boat was built and finished to a very high standard.

The size and space in these boats is quite remarkable.

We were told last year that the boat sailed from South Africa and was by then in the West Indies.

Which is exactly what the boat was built for!

The Bombaloza Scull as a kit

You can car top this design easy enough.

Where else can one get a kit to build your own Bombaloza scull.

Click on the image to enlarge it.

The panel on the floor is the 18mm  pine ply builders jig. There are then three 4mm okoume marine plywood panels that form the hull of the scull.

At under R7000 with Vat.  We supply the epoxy and glass tapes, filler powders also, this is an excellent buy,.

Plans are R600 which is payable to the designer.

Light enough for one person, there is a double scull also.

Build one from one of our CNC cut kits and then get yourself out onto the water!

An inquiry yesterday sold a set of plans to the West coast USA.

Thank You for such a fast response to my inquiry. I have received a PDF of the plans, and construction details from Dave.

The Dixi Dinghy and Argie 10

The Dixi Dinghy is our smallest and lowest priced sail boat as it can be cut from just two sheets of 6mm plywood.

Leslie Koen with his Dixi Dinghy in Namibia. He named her "Red John" after the bad guy in the TV show "The Mentalist".

We can offer the sails from North Sails, plus a Ronstan deck gear kit  as well.

Two great dinghies, these little boats offer lots of fun for the whole family.

Multi-purpose, they can be rowed, motored or sailed and are light enough for one person to lift on and off the family car or yacht.

The Argie 10 requires three sheets of 6mm plywood so is quite a lot larger than the Dixi Dingy.

This beautiful Argie 10 was built by Desmore Kaempffer in Namibia, as a yacht tender. She was a first time boat building project. The results speak for themselves.

Simple stitch and glue construction, they can be built with the minimum of tools, no previous boatbuilding experience and in very little space.

Step-by-step instructions included in plywood plans.

The profile when viewed from above is similar in shape with both designs.

Either one can be the ideal quality time project for a youngster with Dad's assistance or Dad with Junior's help.

Build as a school project which actually has some use after achieving your passing grade.
Practical winter project, build one for fishing on your local pond, as junior's "my boat" or as a tender to your big boat.

Built-in flotation compartments and a simple sail plan make them great for learning to sail, whatever your age.

We can supply you with the plans or a plywood kit cut to size on a CNC machine, we also offer epoxy, glass tapes and filler powders ex stock.

The Optimist sailing dinghy from a kit?

Sent: Thursday, January 12, 2006 7:28 AM
Subject: Oppie is sailing.

Dear Roy and team,
We launched the Oppie recently and she sails very well. Here are some pictures as promised.

Best of luck for the new year.

This has been one of our favorites, we have shipped them to the East and West coast of the USA, Spain, Switzerland,Australia and quite a few places in between!

Priced at a low R5500 (plus vat in South Africa only)  or U$325 plus shipping they are very cost effective.

The Optimist in this picture was built from a CKD Boats cc kit, we probably supplied the North Sail as well.

We supply a fourteen page builders guide with many pictures as part of each kit.

The boat was built for the grandson but I do not think it is he who is sailing it, rather his dad, the son can be seen with his PDF on and sitting low down in the hull of the boat, check the first picture.

The Optimist can easily be carried in the back of  an LDV or even on the roof of a car with suitable racks and tie down straps.

This Optimist was later shipped out to Austalia.

The story behind The JoLon Imp

There is now a book about the JoLon Imp adventure, Terence Tracey wrote it and named it 'No way back ' which will be a reminder that the day they started out from Pretoria it was discovered that the gearbox had no reverse!

That small Nokia cell phone was our link across Africa and the 14,000 kms they had to drive.

Terence Tracey on a visit to see me recently.

You can buy his very well written and presented book from book stores across South Africa.

In the UK The Imp Club are selling them.

The JoLon Imp adventure

Those who know about Hillman Imps may also know about two guys who drove from Pretoria, South Africa to Coventry, England in 2013?

They took thirty nine days, crossed through three continents and made the special event in Coventry with just six hours remaining.

Click on the image to enlarge it.

While Terence and Geoff were driving I was sending them information on servicing the car as and when they required advice, we used cell phones and via SMS mostly.

I  was also working in the background with Richard who is an Imp Club member to find out if David Shepherd would sign a limited edition of his painting of an elephant and Hillman Imp.

David agreed and some fourteen copies were signed by David.

I have copy number one, I also have this sample copy, its unsigned but does still have a high value to myself.

The last morning of the Hillman Imp Club event was a breakfast, The guys were presented with their own copies of David Shepherds painting print.

It was a remarkable event, some 14,000 kilometers driven across Africa, Asia and Europe in a car that was nearly fifty years old.

Left to right, Richard, Terence, Geoff and Graham, the Imp Clubs Chairman.

Meranti wood for our boat kits

This we normally suggest that the buyer of our kits sources themselves, it may save money in the long run, then again it may not be available?

Click on the image to enlarge it.

Sourcing Meranti wood that was planed to size was an issue for a yacht club in New York, we then shipped three sets of wood out to them with the Optimist dinghy orders we had from them.

The picture shows planed meranti wood which we sent with another three boat kit order, this time to Switzerland and two Optimists and one Argie 15 kit.

We sent North Sails to both of these customers and also the Ronstan and Harken deck packs to Switzerland.

Taylors paraffin oven stainless steel splash back plate

This back plate was from either of the stoves below?

Model: 030L or 030 ?

The largest & most versatile in the Taylor's range. The flagship model features a 2 burner hob with stylish black enamelled top plate, grill underneath and a deeper oven than the 030 (see below)
The Taylor's 030L is the model of choice for those with larger galleys, longer term plans and those whose budget allows to really push the boat out.

We are offering a used stainless steel splash back plate to the cast iron stove top. (not the actual stove)

One only and in decent condition.

Only R300, so about U$23.00 plus postage, Vat will apply to RSA residents?

A small bend can be seen on the top edge, it should straighten out?

Contact me for further details.

Andrews yacht Tididi has moved

Andrew built his Hartley 37 from plans, much of the plywood materials to the hull , decks and interior we supplied.

We also supplied the epoxies and the International Paints primers and top coats.

Our congratulations to Andrew for making his dream become true.

How hard can this be?

Ask Andrew!

The yacht was moved quite recently from the building site to Andrews yacht club where he will be fitting the mast and related parts.

You really just have to have a dedication and keep on at the job in hand.

Read more about Andrews progress on his blog.
