With the first three of some twenty yachts here in Hout Bay already, things are going to be busy on the Hout Bay Yacht Club this festive season, the marina will be busy,we may still have free berths though, please phone the marina manager Alan Batley on 021 790 7095 (phone/fax) or 082 337 2208 on his cell phone.

The HBYC  marina section has been mega active finding and making new ways to host the fleet, some of which have required casting and laying extra mooring blocks and penants layed 30 meters from the marinas in question, those blocks will assist in adding extra lines to the larger boats.

News from Richards Bay,from the Zululand Observer.

All 20 boats have arrived safely in Richards Bay and make an impressive display at their moorings.

The Zululand Yacht Club is abuzz this week after 20 international yachts and crews were welcomed to Richards Bay. Ranging in size from 12 metres to 22 meters, they represent 12 different nations participating in the World ARC sailing rally. The last leg entailed a 1 340 nautical miles sail from La Reunion, described as ‘a particularly difficult leg’ with all crews ‘just pleased to have arrived’. The fleet is now well over halfway towards their goal of circumnavigating the world, having begun their epic voyage from the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia in January this year. During the visit crews hope to visit inland to some of the region’s excellent game reserves and enjoy the facilities at the Zululand Yacht Club. The next part of the rally is a free cruising period and so crews will decide when to leave Zululand to make the next rendezvous at Hout Bay Yacht Club, Cape Town, in January. The fleet will then sail across the South Atlantic to Brazil via St Helena. Event Manager Paul Tetlow from rally organisers World Cruising Club said, ‘We are delighted to be back in South Africa with our fourth round the world rally. ‘The welcome for the yachts has been superb - so warm and friendly - and I am sure it will be one of our best stopovers during the 15 month voyage.’
