A day on our bay, sailing in local waters
Heading into Hout Bay,thats The Sentinal off the port bow.
Genoa is furled and we enter Hout Bay,Chapmans Peak is to starboard.
Looking back the way we came into the bay.
The local landmark,The Sentinal cliff can be seen under the foot of the genoa, the white sheet goes right through it,so use that as pointer.
When its good its very very good, for those those sailing in to Hout Bay from Chapmans Bay,the picture shows sailing with the breeze from the south east and when its from the south east, its good idea to check on mist coming over from Chapmans Peak off the starboard bow,you may see wind on the water under the peak too, this is a good indication to the stronger breeze your about to encounter, time to reef? you may find it backs off once your into the bay proper. That is The Sentinal off the boats port bow, with Dyker Island (seal island) below it.Some distance off the boats port beam is a rock called Vulcan Rock,it breaks most any time,so you should easily see it awash.
