hi there, I just dug up a picture of peter thurridl (py1zak) an looked him up on the web to see if there was any mention of him. how delighted i was to come across youe great blog site. We were there in 1982 on the yacht robust.
ReplyDeleteWe were very hospitably received by peter, who we understood to be a retired lufthanza captain. we were there about 2 weeks and then fetched my dad from rio airport from sa who had come to join us for a visit. we took my dad sailing down in the islands and he met peter too. my dad had been a bombe rpilot in the last world war so they had plenty to chat about. we had a fea cases of good sa wine (rustenberg) and we cracked a few with peter and had a great party or two. we learned to prepare bread fruit and peter showed us many ways to prepare it, even as thin crisps which are great.
There is so much to say about that visit to the island and peter's bay, i will never know where or when to stop. thanks anyway for the chance to share some memories and thank you for the great accounts typed up on this site and the pictures too. I will now try to paste in a picture which i have, but in fact i have many many more if any one wants copies.
